Anybody going to the VHSA Associates' Championship Show in Lexington this weekend? I'll be there. Pimpin' my Pam Herman Farms sweatshirts and jackets. :-P

If you are going, good luck!

Well, I don't live in Virginia, but my horses now do, so I figure I can join this community.
I think people here read equestrian, so you probably know all about Alphy and Ben already, so I won't reintroduce them.

My trainer is now based out of Saddle Creek Farm in Palmyra, and I fly down on the weekends to see my horses. (No, I am not loaded, I have friends with lots and lots of frequent flyer miles.)

The farm is gorgeous, and the horses love to go for hacks up and down the hills in the ginormous fields. There is so much space that they can really be horses, rather than always being in the same ring. The facility way outclasses anything that was available here in Ithaca -it is worth the trip just to be able to ride in those fields!

Can anyone recommend any good local shows around the area?
Is anyone from this community near Palmyra? It would be great to meet some of you, and your horses!

The local show took place at the barn where I board, and I thought that it was going to be stress-free. It wasn't, though. I was really nervous for some reason. I think it had to do with the fact that it was soggy and still raining. My back really hurt, too. I just wasn't feeling very confident. I normally get to do any easy 5 or an easy 6 down the lines, but I had to do the reals yesterday. It just felt too fast for me. I wouldn't have been able to get him balanced enough to make it in 6 during the last 2 lines, though. Schooling was absolutely terrible. My warm-up sucked. Fortunately, my A and B courses went a lot better. I love my horse to death. He was so good yesterday. I put him in so many shitty spots that I probably should've been sitting in the dirt about 5 times. He got lots of carrots and a good Vetrolin bath afterwards. He definitely saved my ass quite a few times.

I have pictures! I could've sworn that I took a picture of Ashlee with Toby. Toby is the new boy at the barn. He's 2 years and 4 months old, and he already stands at probably 16.1 hands. Could be taller. I can't remember. He's extremely cute. He's an Oldenburg out of Wallstreet Kid. His trot is to die for! He moves so well! I can't wait to see how he turns out. He won 3rd in Breeding at the show yesterday. It was his very first time out and about in the ring with a crowd watching him. Sadly, it seems as if I imagined taking a picture of the handsome boy. Oh, well. Here are the other pictures!

Is anybody going to the VHSA Associate Finals in Lexington in November? I think it's from the 17th to the 19th.

Isaac and Chris came out a few days ago to take pictures of me riding Brite. Unfortunately, Nick [the husband] accidentally deleted the photos that Chris took, but I still have the ones from Isaac.

I don't mind obeservations/critique is okay. I'm glad these pictures were taken, besides that it's nice to have pictures of me riding, because I can see my equitation flaws and aide problems more clearly. However, things I already know [meaning, let's not go on and on about them, brief comments are okay] are:

+I need to put my stupid shoulders back! Argh.
+I'm not asking Brite to use his hindquarters as much as he can/should [per my trainer]. I think I got distracted with two guys running around in the arena taking pictures.
+I need to stop opening my fingers so much. Who knows why I do that. Unconcious habit.
+I look down a lot. I honestly attribute that to being a little camera shy - as they were everywhere I looked.

Enough excuses!

Also, disregard the arena. The footing is poor at the moment, it's getting fixed, but we need it to pour first. The entire barn is in the process of getting a face lift. [Yay!]

Hey all :)

I'm going through some pretty tough times at my current barn (been there four years and plan on leaving in the fall :X). I was just wondering if any of you are from the NoVA area (I'm in Woodbridge/Prince William County) and have any good recommendations for barns with hunter/jumper lesson programs. And just out of curiousity, although chances are slim of me being able to lease, does anyone know of any small horses/ponies for lease in the area?

Thanks a bunch!

Hey all :) I hardly ever post in here, but I'm bored and procrastinating from my plethora of homework..so, I figured I would write a bit!

This winter I started riding my trainer's BLM Mustang pony, Katie (show name Free Falling). She's 14.2hh, buckskin, and about 18 years old. She's an amazing pleasure pony, and used to be a top pony hunter before an injury retired her from jumping about 3 years ago. This year I'm using her as my 4H project horse, and I'll also be showing her in pleasure at some local shows. Since I'm going to turn 18 this summer, this is my last season to show ponies, so I'm going to make the most of it! I'm really happy to be riding Katie. I've experienced a lot of setbacks in my riding over the past few years, it's nice to finally have something I can really benefit from but have fun with, too!

Awww, she's so pretty!

Hehe, no more horses for me, though. Just one... the best one! :-D

I still need to post pictures of Calvin.

XOXO's, Emily
